Port Innovators Network Expands to South America with Cubo Maritime & Port, Brazil
17/07/2024. The Port Innovators Network (PIN), the first global network of port innovation hubs, welcomes Cubo Maritime & Port to the membership. Cubo Maritime & Port, based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is the largest innovation hub in the maritime and port sector in Latin America, bringing collaboration between large corporations and startups to develop new innovative solutions with the mission of making port operations and waterway cargo transport in Latin America more efficient, safe, sustainable and straightforward.
With Cubo Maritime & Port as associate member, both Cubo and the rest of PIN members will benefit of a greater and enriched port innovation community. This will help the network to better achieve its objective to link port innovation communities, connecting startups, corporates, and entrepreneurs and partners from each hub with the organizations of the other hubs.
The announcement was made on Tuesday (16/07) in the Cubo Maritime & Port Annual Event, with the presence of the CEOs of Cubo Itaú, Paulo Costa, and Wilson Sons, Fernando Salek, the CFO of Hidrovias do Brasil, André Hachem, the Port Administration Director of Porto do Açu, Vinicius Patel, representatives of the Ministry of Ports and Airports, together with more than 300 attendees from the Brazilian port sector.
Jonas Mendes Constante, in representation of PIN, mentioned in the event that “This is an iconic moment for PIN, with the first expansion of the network and starting with an outstanding innovation hub in South America. We are willing to start the collaboration with Cubo Maritime & Port and our port innovation communities to build the next generation of port innovation“.
Eduardo Valença, Transformation Director, Wilson Sons, said: “We are moving forward. We want to support the port industry, understand the situation from North to South, our digital maturity, and what can be improved. And, thus, further support the implementation of the innovation agenda via collaborations with startups and by setting up port facilities directed to this end. The cooperation with PIN will further speed up this process, with the exchange of global experiences in port innovation”.
Established in October 2023 by Port of Hamburg (homePORT), the Port of Halifax (The PIER) and the Port of Valencia (Opentop), PIN is connecting port innovation hubs around the world.
Since its formation, PIN has hosted three “PINsight” events, bringing together the diverse memberships out of Valencia, Hamburg and Halifax to link port industry innovators sharing learnings on the latest trends and developments.
PIN now extends across three continents as it grows the global alliance of port innovators.
