The 5th Valenciaport Hackathon has been officially presented by Opentop, the innovation hub of Fundación Valenciaport, in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Association (IDF). This international benchmark event in the maritime logistics sector will be held from May 9 to 11, 2025, at the iconic Edificio del Reloj of the Port of Valencia.

The launch event featured opening remarks by Antonio Torregrosa, General Director of Fundación Valenciaport, followed by an inspiring interview with the winners of the previous edition. They shared how their participation in the hackathon evolved into a real entrepreneurial project. The session continued with the unveiling of this year’s updates and a hands-on activity in which participants —representatives from collaborating companies— had the chance to experience some of the dynamics that will take place during the hackathon. The event concluded with a closing speech by Juan Manuel Díez, Head of Innovation at the Port Authority of Valencia.

The Valenciaport Hackathon offers a unique opportunity for professionals, entrepreneurs, and students from various disciplines —including technology, engineering, and business development— to address real-world challenges in the port sector and co-create innovative, sustainable solutions.

This year, participants will work on three major challenges focused on:

  • Energy efficiency (proposed by Logistop)
  • Waste traceability (proposed by ATEIA Valencia)
  • Cybersecurity (proposed by the Port Authority of Valencia)

The event is supported by APM Terminals, Infoport, CIBERTRS, and benefits from the strategic backing of Startup Valencia, Valencia Innovation Capital, and Invest in Valencia. It is also co-funded by INCIBE, the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute. The hackathon is technically organized by Innova&Acción, specialists in innovation-focused experiences and talent development.

During the Hackathon of three dynamic days, teams will work collaboratively with the guidance of expert mentors in ports, innovation, and emerging technologies. Participants will also benefit from specialized training through masterclasses and practical workshops on agile methodologies, idea validation, prototyping, business model design, and pitch development.

The event will culminate in a grand finale, where teams will present their solutions to a professional jury composed of organizers and partners, who will select the winning projects.

Awards include:

  • First Prize: €3,000 – sponsored by Fundación Juan Arizo Serrulla (FJAS)
  • Second Prize: €2,000 – sponsored by The Whiteam
  • Third Prize: €1,000 – sponsored by Propeller Valencia
  • Special Prize for the Most Sustainable Solution: €1,000 – sponsored by Naturgy (compatible with the above prizes)

The 5th Valenciaport Hackathon continues to promote the intersection of technical knowledge, academic insight, and the real-world expertise of the logistics-port ecosystem to foster sustainable, intelligent port development.

Applications are now open and will close on May 1, 2025.
