Port Innovators Network Expands to North Sea

  • Port Innovators Network (PIN) is a growing network of international port innovation hubs on three continents including Opentop, homePORT, The PIER, Cubo Maritime & Port, SmartportLab, and now 2050 National Maritime Innovation Hub at Port of Tyne, United Kingdom.
     
  • PIN aims to boost the adoption of innovation in the port ecosystem and supply chains on a global scale. 

    01/27/2025. PIN is pleased to welcome the 2050 National Maritime Innovation Hub at Port of Tyne to the network.

    The 2050 Maritime Innovation Hub is a UK collaboration between partners at the Port of Tyne, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Nissan, Hitachi Europe, BT, Frazer-Nash, Connected Places Catapult, and the Department for Transport. The collaboration drives forward-thinking solutions to accelerate the journey towards smarter ports. 

    Focused on addressing critical challenges such as decarbonisation, clean energy transition, and climate resilience, the 2050 Maritime Innovation Hub works to develop green solutions and accelerate technological advancements. Through R&D projects, open innovation programmes, and accelerators, it fosters collaboration between industry leaders, SMEs, researchers, and government agencies. 

    In addition to advancing automation and autonomous systems, the Hub plays a vital role in workforce development, supporting skills and cultural initiatives to prepare for the future demands of the sector, the Hub aligns with the strategic vision outlined in the UK’s Maritime 2050 Strategy.
